About Denise
Hi! My name is Denise and welcome to Momma Coyote! Here is a little bit about me and my journey. Thank you for being here!
Art has found me in so many different capacities throughout my life, leading me to experience many different mediums. I eventually landed in my comfort zone of metalsmithing. There is something about the contrast of silver and stone that blends so effortlessly and beautifully, no matter what the color or stone type. The possibilities are endless and I genuinely feel there is a style for everyone. My absolute favorite stone to work with is turquoise, I have always been drawn to its unique beauty and the endless variety of colors and shades.
My work is a reflection of whatever moves me at the time, whether that be a specific stone, shape, or color. I’ve never stayed within a strict box or structure when creating, which means all of my pieces are unique. I work best this way when the expectations are driven by my creative nature.
Sharing the journey
What makes this journey even more special is now I share a little piece with my daughter. In the beginning, I had created a small business of my own. But then, in 2019, my daughter started showing interest in creating and quickly took off and started growing her own jewelry business. My daughter, The Howling Coyote, made a statement with Navajo pearls and we quickly realized how well the pearls and the stones were loved by the same people. She was not yet into metalsmithing at the time and was sending me customers who wanted custom pieces. I was so often called and known as the mom to The Howling Coyote, that we decided to make it official and I rebranded my business to what it is now, Momma Coyote. We still each have our own styles and ideas, but the collaborations are always beautiful. You’ll see my work sometimes featured with The Howling Coyote, either on social media or at different cattle and horse shows The Howling Coyote attends.
All of my pieces are created in my home studio in Connecticut. I source my materials and stones from trusted and high quality vendors. I take a lot of pride in finding as many different colors, shades, and shapes as possible so there are endless possibilities.
I hope you find something here that moves you. Nothing warms my heart more than bringing joy to another person through jewelry. Enjoy!
